Famous Pearls from history

Some of the June birthstone pearls have achieved fame due to their size, beauty, or historical significance.

The pearl on the Breastplate of Aaron (if a pearl was actually included) is generally associated with the tribe of Naphtali. While the exact stones and their corresponding tribes are debated, the most common association places a pearl or pearl-like gemstone with Naphtali.

The La Peregrina Pearl

One of the most famous pearls in the world, La Peregrina (meaning “The Pilgrim” or “The Wanderer”) is a pear-shaped pearl discovered in the early 16th century in the Gulf of Panama. It has been owned by European royalty and was famously part of Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry collection.

The Pearl of Lao Tzu

Also known as the Pearl of Allah, this is the largest known natural pearl, weighing 14 pounds. It was found off the coast of Palawan in the Philippines in 1934.

Pearls have remained a timeless fashion staple, evolving with changing styles and trends. Iconic figures such as Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis have immortalized pearls in popular culture, solidifying their status as symbols of elegance and sophistication.
